3HO (Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization) is a non-profit organization founded in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan. The organization is dedicated to sharing the teachings of Kundalini Yoga and promoting a lifestyle that integrates physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
History
3HO was established by Yogi Bhajan after he moved to the United States from India in 1968. He began teaching Kundalini Yoga in Los Angeles, California, and quickly gained a following. In 1969, he founded 3HO to formalize his teachings and create a community of practitioners.
Teachings
The core teachings of 3HO are based on the practice of Kundalini Yoga, which combines breathing techniques, meditation, mantras, and yoga postures to awaken the kundalini energy believed to reside at the base of the spine. The organization also emphasizes a holistic lifestyle that includes a vegetarian diet, celibacy, and service to others.
Events and Activities
3HO organizes various events and activities to promote its teachings, including:
- Summer Solstice Sadhana: An annual gathering in New Mexico that includes intensive yoga and meditation sessions.
- Winter Solstice Sadhana: A similar event held in Florida.
- International Women's Camp: A retreat focused on empowering women through yoga and meditation.
Community and Outreach
3HO has a global presence with local chapters and affiliated organizations in many countries. It also engages in various outreach programs, including:
- Kundalini Yoga teacher training programs
- Community service initiatives
- Health and wellness workshops
Criticism and Controversy
3HO and its founder, Yogi Bhajan, have faced criticism and controversy over the years. Some former members have alleged abuse and misconduct within the organization. These allegations have led to internal investigations and ongoing discussions about the organization's practices and leadership.
