Corpus Christi College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1517, it is one of the older colleges at the university and has a rich history and tradition.

History

Corpus Christi College was founded by Richard Foxe, the Bishop of Winchester, in 1517. The college was established to promote the study of the humanities and theology. Foxe was a significant figure in the early Tudor period and was closely associated with Henry VII.

Architecture

The college is known for its distinctive Renaissance architecture. The main quadrangle, known as the Old Quad, is one of the most beautiful in Oxford. The chapel and the library are notable features of the college, both of which date back to the early 16th century.

Academics

Corpus Christi College has a strong academic reputation, particularly in the fields of classics, law, and medicine. The college has produced many notable alumni, including John Keble, a leader of the Oxford Movement, and Isaiah Berlin, a prominent philosopher and historian of ideas.

Traditions

The college has several unique traditions, including the annual Tortoise Fair, which features a race between tortoises owned by various Oxford colleges. The college also has a strong rowing tradition, with its boat club competing in the annual Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race.
