History[edit]

Pembroke College was founded in 1624 by King James I of England, with the assistance of Thomas Tesdale and Richard Wightwick. The college was named in honor of William Herbert, 3rd Earl of Pembroke, who was the Chancellor of the University at the time. The college's original buildings were constructed around a medieval hall, which was part of Broadgates Hall, an earlier academic institution.

The chapel was designed by Christopher Wren, a prominent English architect. The college has expanded over the centuries, with significant additions in the 19th and 20th centuries, including the Rokos Quad, which was completed in 2013.
