Gerber Products Company

Gerber Products Company
Gerber Products Company is an American purveyor of baby food and baby products. Founded in 1927 in Fremont, Michigan, Gerber is a subsidiary of Nestlé Group. The company is known for its iconic "Gerber Baby" logo and its wide range of baby food products.
History
Gerber was founded by Daniel Frank Gerber, who was inspired to start the company after his wife, Dorothy, began making hand-strained food for their seven-month-old daughter, Sally. Recognizing the potential for a mass-market product, Gerber began producing strained baby food in 1928. The company quickly grew, becoming a household name in the United States.
Products
Gerber offers a variety of products designed for infants and toddlers, including:
- Baby food (purees, cereals, snacks)
- Formula
- Toddler meals
- Baby care products (bottles, pacifiers, utensils)
The Gerber Baby
The "Gerber Baby" is one of the most recognizable logos in the world. The original sketch was submitted by artist Dorothy Hope Smith in 1928 and was based on a neighbor's baby, Ann Turner Cook. The image has remained largely unchanged since its inception.
Corporate Structure
Gerber is a subsidiary of the Nestlé Group, which acquired the company in 2007. The acquisition allowed Gerber to expand its product line and reach a global market.
Manufacturing and Quality Control
Gerber operates several manufacturing facilities in the United States and adheres to strict quality control measures to ensure the safety and nutritional value of its products. The company is committed to sustainability and sources many of its ingredients from local farms.
Community Involvement
Gerber is involved in various community initiatives, including nutrition education programs and partnerships with healthcare providers to promote infant health and wellness.
