Xinjiang

Xinjiang (Uyghur: شىنجاڭ; simplified Chinese: 新疆; traditional Chinese: 新疆; pinyin: Xīnjiāng), officially known as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), is an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China, located in the far northwest of the country. It is the largest Chinese administrative division and spans over 1.6 million km².

History

Xinjiang's history is complex, with influences from various cultures and empires. The region was a key part of the Silk Road and has been home to a number of different ethnic groups.

Geography
