Sea

The sea is the interconnected system of all the Earth's oceanic waters, including the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern Ocean, and Arctic Ocean. However, the word "sea" can also be used for many specific, much smaller bodies of seawater, such as the North Sea or the Red Sea.

Characteristics[edit]

There is a wide range of characteristics of the sea. The sea is a complex ecosystem that includes a wide range of organisms, including everything from small plankton to the largest whales. The sea also plays a crucial role in the water cycle, acting as a major reservoir for water and as a major source of evaporation.

Importance[edit]

The sea is of immense importance to humans. It provides a substantial portion of the world's food and a wide range of other resources, including minerals, energy resources, and biological resources. It also serves as a major avenue for transportation and commerce, and it has been the venue for exploration and warfare.

Threats[edit]

The sea faces a number of threats. These include pollution, overfishing, climate change, and acidification. These threats have the potential to disrupt the sea's ecosystems and to deplete its resources.
