Ore Mountains

The Ore Mountains (German: Erzgebirge; Czech: Krušné hory) are a mountain range located in Central Europe, stretching across the border between Germany and the Czech Republic. The mountains are primarily known for their rich deposits of various ores, which have been mined for centuries.

Geography[edit]

The Ore Mountains extend from the state of Saxony in eastern Germany to the northwestern part of the Czech Republic. The highest peak in the range is the Klínovec (German: Keilberg), which stands at 1,244 meters above sea level. The mountains are characterized by their rugged terrain, dense forests, and numerous rivers and streams.

History[edit]

The Ore Mountains have a long history of human habitation, with archaeological evidence suggesting that the area was settled as early as the Bronze Age. However, the region truly began to develop during the Middle Ages, when large-scale mining operations were established to extract the abundant ores found in the mountains.

Mining[edit]

The Ore Mountains are named for their rich deposits of various ores, including silver, tin, iron, and uranium. The mining industry in the region dates back to the Middle Ages, and it has played a crucial role in the economic development of both Saxony and the Czech Republic.
