WikiProject (pronounced: /ˈwɪkiˌprɒdʒɛkt/) is a collaborative effort by contributors to create, improve, and manage content on a specific topic or family of topics on MediaWiki.
Etymology
The term "WikiProject" is a combination of the Hawaiian word "wiki", meaning quick, and the English word "project". It refers to a project undertaken on a wiki platform, such as MediaWiki.
Definition
A WikiProject is a group of contributors who want to work together as a team to improve MediaWiki. These groups often focus on a specific topic area (for example, a specific location or topic) or a specific kind of task (for example, checking newly created pages). The English MediaWiki hosts many such WikiProjects.
