White Marsh, Maryland (pronunciation: /ˈwaɪt ˈmɑːrʃ/) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. The name "White Marsh" is believed to have originated from the white clay or marl soil found in the area.
Location
White Marsh is located at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Maryland Route 43, which makes it a prominent suburb of Baltimore. It is home to the prominent White Marsh Mall, one of the largest regional shopping malls in the Baltimore area.
History
White Marsh was largely undeveloped until 1965, when the Baltimore County government established it as a planned community. In 1981, the White Marsh Mall was opened, and the area saw a rapid growth in population and businesses.
