West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania

West Conshohocken is a borough located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is situated along the Schuylkill River, which provides a rich environment for various species of flora and fauna. The borough is known for its small-town charm, historic buildings, and vibrant community life.

History[edit]

West Conshohocken was incorporated as a borough in 1874, from land taken almost equally from the townships of Lower Merion and Upper Merion. The area was primarily a farming community until the late 19th century when it developed into a manufacturing center. The borough has a rich history that is evident in its many historic buildings and landmarks.

Geography[edit]

West Conshohocken is located at 40°4′6″N 75°21′37″W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.0 square mile, all of it land. The borough is primarily residential, with a small commercial center near the original railroad station.

Demographics[edit]

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 1,320 people, 550 households, and 325 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,320.0 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the borough was 92.4% White, 3.5% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.5% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.3% of the population.

Economy[edit]

West Conshohocken has a diverse economy with a mix of local businesses and multinational corporations. The borough is home to several corporate headquarters, including SMG, a worldwide venue management company, and Kynetic, an e-commerce company.

Education[edit]

The borough is served by the Upper Merion Area School District. There are also several private schools in the area, providing a range of educational options for families.

Transportation[edit]

West Conshohocken is served by SEPTA's bus routes and is close to several major highways, including Interstate 76 and Interstate 476, making it a convenient location for commuting to Philadelphia and other nearby cities.

Notable people[edit]

Several notable people have called West Conshohocken home, including John Salmons, a former professional basketball player for the Chicago Bulls, and John C. Bogle, the founder of The Vanguard Group.
