Virginia Tech, formally known as Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, is a public university located in Blacksburg, Virginia. It is a leading institution in research, engineering, and technology.
History
Virginia Tech was established in 1872 as a land-grant institution under the name Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. The university has undergone several name changes, becoming Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1896 and adopting its current name in 1970.
