Sustainable energy (pronunciation: /səˈsteɪnəbəl ˈɛnərdʒi/) is the practice of using energy in a way that "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
Etymology
The term "sustainable" comes from the Latin sustinere (tenere, to hold; sus, up). The term "energy" comes from the Greek energeia, which means activity or operation. In this context, it refers to a system or source of power that can be maintained indefinitely.
