Veer Narmad South Gujarat University


Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) is a public university located in the city of Surat, in the state of Gujarat, India. Named after the famous 19th-century Gujarati poet Narmad, the university was established in 1965 to cater to the educational needs of the South Gujarat region. Veer Narmad South Gujarat University was established in 1965 under the South Gujarat University Act, 1965 passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly. The university was renamed in 2004 in honor of the renowned Gujarati poet Veer Narmad, whose real name was Narmadashankar Lalshankar Dave. The renaming was done to pay homage to his contribution to Gujarati literature and his vision for social reform in the region.
