Stress Management

Stress management (/strɛs mænɪdʒmənt/) refers to the wide spectrum of techniques and psychotherapies aimed at controlling a person's level of stress, especially chronic stress, usually for the purpose of improving everyday functioning.

Etymology

The term "stress" was borrowed from the field of physics by one of the pioneers of stress research Hans Selye. In physics, stress describes the force that produces strain on a physical body. Selye used the term in a similar manner, suggesting that individuals "strain" to adapt to the environmental demands placed upon them.
