Steven Raichlen is an American author, journalist, and television host known for his expertise in barbecue and grilling. He has written numerous books on the subject and has hosted several television programs dedicated to the art of cooking over fire.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Steven Raichlen was born in Nagoya, Japan, and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon, where he studied French literature. Raichlen later received a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship to study medieval cooking in Europe.
Career[edit]
Writing[edit]
Raichlen is the author of over 30 books, including the best-selling "The Barbecue Bible" series. His books have been translated into 17 languages and have won numerous awards, including the James Beard Award.
Television[edit]
Raichlen has hosted several television shows, including "Barbecue University" and "Primal Grill" on PBS. His shows focus on teaching viewers the techniques and recipes for successful grilling and barbecuing.
Teaching[edit]
In addition to his writing and television work, Raichlen runs "Barbecue University", a three-day intensive course held at the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The course covers a wide range of grilling techniques and recipes.
Personal Life[edit]
Steven Raichlen lives with his family in Miami, Florida, and Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. He continues to travel extensively, researching and writing about barbecue and grilling techniques from around the world.
