Risk assessment - method of estimating the risk that a particular event will occur. In medicine, this can include a person's risk of having a child with a certain condition or disease, such as cancer. It can also be used to assess the risk of carrying a specific gene mutation (change) or experiencing an adverse event (unexpected medical problem) in response to certain types of drugs or other substances. A risk assessment can be performed by gathering information about an individual's age, gender, personal and family medical history, ethnic background, lifestyle, and other factors, and using statistical tools to calculate risk
