RU-28362

From Food & Medicine Encyclopedia

RU-28362 is a synthetic glucocorticoid receptor agonist. It is a potent and selective agonist for the glucocorticoid receptor, with around 10x higher affinity than dexamethasone. RU-28362 has been used in scientific research to distinguish between the effects of glucocorticoid receptor activation from those of mineralocorticoid receptor activation.

Chemistry[edit]

RU-28362 is a synthetic compound. It is part of the class of compounds known as glucocorticoids, which are a type of steroid hormone. Glucocorticoids are produced in the adrenal gland and are involved in a wide range of physiological processes, including the regulation of metabolism, immune response, and stress response.

Pharmacology[edit]

RU-28362 acts as an agonist for the glucocorticoid receptor. This means that it binds to the receptor and activates it, mimicking the effects of natural glucocorticoids. The compound has a high affinity for the glucocorticoid receptor, meaning that it binds strongly to the receptor. This high affinity is thought to be responsible for the potent effects of RU-28362.

Research Use[edit]

RU-28362 has been used in scientific research to study the effects of glucocorticoid receptor activation. By using a selective agonist like RU-28362, researchers can specifically activate the glucocorticoid receptor, allowing them to distinguish its effects from those of other receptors. This has been particularly useful in studies investigating the roles of glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid receptors in the brain, kidney, and other tissues.
