RDH13
RDH13 (Retinol Dehydrogenase 13) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the RDH13 gene. The RDH13 protein is a member of the short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR) family, which is a large family of enzymes that are involved in the metabolism of a variety of molecules such as lipids, carbohydrates, and steroids.
Function
RDH13 is a mitochondrial protein that is involved in the oxidation and reduction of retinoids, which are compounds that are derived from vitamin A. The exact function of RDH13 is not fully understood, but it is believed to play a role in the metabolism of retinoids in the mitochondria.
Clinical significance
Mutations in the RDH13 gene have been associated with a variety of diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and neurodegenerative diseases. However, the exact role of RDH13 in these diseases is not fully understood and is the subject of ongoing research.
