Promiscuity
Promiscuity (pronunciation: /prəˈmɪskjʊɪti/) is a term used in the field of Sexology to describe the practice of engaging in sexual activity frequently with different partners or being indiscriminate in the choice of sexual partners. The term can carry a moral judgement if viewed in the context of a societal standard and is often associated with the spread of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
Etymology
The term "promiscuity" comes from the Latin word 'promiscuus' which means 'mixed, indiscriminate, in common, shared by all'. It was first used in English in the mid 16th century and has been used to describe indiscriminate mingling or association, particularly in a sexual context, since the late 18th century.
