Phanquinone

Phanquinone is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C20H12O2. It is a member of the quinone family, which are aromatic compounds with two ketone substituents. Phanquinone is not naturally occurring and must be synthesized in a laboratory setting.

Synthesis

The synthesis of Phanquinone involves the oxidation of phenanthrene, a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, in the presence of a strong oxidizing agent such as chromic acid. The reaction yields Phanquinone and water as byproducts.

Properties

Phanquinone is a yellow crystalline solid at room temperature. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone. It has a melting point of 210-212 degrees Celsius.

Applications

Phanquinone is primarily used in research settings. It is a useful reagent in the synthesis of other organic compounds. It has also been used in the study of photochemistry, as it undergoes interesting reactions when exposed to light.

Safety

Phanquinone is a strong oxidizing agent and can cause burns if it comes into contact with skin or eyes. It should be handled with care in a well-ventilated area, and protective clothing should be worn at all times.
