Pepperidge Farm

From WikiMD's Medical Encyclopedia

Pepperidge Farm is an American commercial bakery founded in 1937 by Margaret Rudkin, who named the brand after her family's property in Fairfield, Connecticut, which in turn was named for the pepperidge tree, Nyssa sylvatica. A subsidiary of the Campbell Soup Company, it is based in Norwalk, Connecticut.

History[edit]

Margaret Rudkin began baking bread in 1937 for her allergy-afflicted son. Her son's health improved, and Rudkin began selling her bread to local grocers in Fairfield, Connecticut, under the brand name "Pepperidge Farm". The company was bought by Campbell Soup Company in 1961.

Products[edit]

Pepperidge Farm's products include Milano cookies, Goldfish crackers, and several varieties of bread. The company also produces the line of frozen puff pastries, Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry, in both sheets and shells.
