A Patient portal (/ˈpeɪʃənt ˈpɔːrtəl/) is a secure online website that gives patients convenient, 24-hour access to personal health information from anywhere with an Internet connection.

Etymology

The term "patient portal" is derived from the words "patient", a person receiving or registered to receive medical treatment, and "portal", which in the context of the internet, is a website serving as an access point to other sites.

Definition

Using a secure username and password, patients can view health information such as:

  • Discharge summaries
