Patient (/ˈpeɪʃənt/; from Latin patiens, "suffering") is a term used to refer to a person who is under medical care or treatment.
Etymology
The term "patient" comes from the Latin word patiens, the present participle of the deponent verb pati, meaning "one who suffers". This is the same root for the English word "patience".
