Types of Nucleotidyltransferases

- DNA polymerase: Enzymes that synthesize DNA molecules from deoxyribonucleotides, the building blocks of DNA.
- RNA polymerase: Enzymes that synthesize RNA from ribonucleotides, the building blocks of RNA.
- Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT): An enzyme that adds nucleotides to the 3' end of a DNA molecule without a template.
- Poly(A) polymerase: An enzyme that adds a polyadenylate (poly(A)) tail to the 3' end of an RNA molecule.
Mechanism
The mechanism of nucleotidyltransferase action involves the binding of the enzyme to the nucleoside triphosphate and the acceptor molecule. The enzyme then catalyzes the transfer of the nucleotide to the acceptor, forming a new phosphodiester bond and releasing pyrophosphate.
