Nucleoporin 210kDa
Nucleoporin 210kDa (also known as NUP210) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NUP210 gene. It is a component of the nuclear pore complex, a structure that regulates the movement of molecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm.
Function[edit]
NUP210 is a type I transmembrane protein located at the central plug of the nuclear pore complex (NPC). It plays a crucial role in the nuclear pore complex architecture and in nuclear envelope formation during mitosis. NUP210 also plays a significant role in the immune system, particularly in the development and function of T cells.
Structure[edit]
The NUP210 protein is a large glycoprotein with a molecular mass of approximately 210 kDa. It contains a transmembrane domain near its C-terminus that anchors it to the nuclear envelope. The N-terminal region of the protein extends into the nuclear pore, where it interacts with other nucleoporins to form the central plug of the NPC.
Clinical significance[edit]
Mutations in the NUP210 gene have been associated with various diseases, including leukemia, autoimmune diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. Further research is needed to fully understand the role of NUP210 in these conditions.
