Nuclear Engineering

Nuclear engineering (pronunciation: /ˈnjuː.kli.ər ˌɛndʒɪˈnɪərɪŋ/) is a branch of engineering that deals with the application of breaking down atomic nuclei (nuclear fission) or of combining atomic nuclei (nuclear fusion). It also includes the study and application of the behavior and effects of radiation.

Etymology

The term "nuclear" comes from the Latin nucleus, meaning "core". The term "engineering" is derived from the Latin ingenium, meaning "cleverness" and ingeniare, meaning "to contrive, devise".
