Mr. Sub was founded in Toronto, Ontario, in 1968 by two friends, Jack Levinson and Earl Linzon. The first location was opened on Bloor Street in the heart of Toronto. The founders were inspired by the growing popularity of submarine sandwiches in the United States and saw an opportunity to introduce this concept to the Canadian market.

The original name, Mr. Submarine, was eventually shortened to Mr. Sub as the brand expanded across Canada. The chain quickly gained popularity due to its fresh ingredients and made-to-order sandwiches, which appealed to a wide range of customers.

Expansion

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Mr. Sub expanded rapidly, opening new locations across Ontario and eventually throughout Canada. The brand's growth was fueled by a franchise model that allowed local entrepreneurs to open their own Mr. Sub locations.

In the 1990s, Mr. Sub continued to expand its menu offerings, introducing new sandwich varieties and sides to cater to changing consumer tastes. The chain also began to focus on healthier options, offering whole wheat bread and low-fat sandwich choices.

Menu

Mr. Sub's menu features a wide variety of submarine sandwiches, including classic options like the "Assorted" (ham, salami, and luncheon meat), "Turkey Breast," and "Meatball." The chain is known for its customizable sandwiches, allowing customers to choose from a selection of fresh vegetables, cheeses, and sauces.

In addition to sandwiches, Mr. Sub offers salads, soups, and sides such as chips and cookies. The chain has also introduced breakfast options in some locations, featuring breakfast sandwiches and coffee.

Corporate Structure

Mr. Sub is part of the MTY Food Group, a Canadian company that owns numerous restaurant brands. The acquisition by MTY Food Group has allowed Mr. Sub to benefit from shared resources and expertise, contributing to its continued success in the competitive fast food market.
