Motor Vehicle Accidents (pronunciation: /ˈmoʊtər ˈviːɪkəl ˈæksɪdənts/), also known as Car Accidents or Traffic Collisions, are incidents in which a motor vehicle collides with another vehicle, pedestrian, animal, road debris, or other stationary obstruction, such as a tree or utility pole.

Etymology

The term "Motor Vehicle Accident" is derived from the Latin word motor meaning "mover", and vehiculum meaning "carriage". The word "accident" comes from the Latin accidere, meaning "to happen".
