Mohan Agashe
Mohan Agashe (pronunciation: Mo-han A-ga-she) is a renowned Indian theatre and film actor. He has made significant contributions to both the Marathi and Hindi film industry.
Early Life and Education
Mohan Agashe was born on 23rd July 1947 in Bhor, Maharashtra, India. He completed his medical education from B. J. Medical College, Pune and later pursued his psychiatric training from NIMHANS, Bangalore.
Career
Agashe started his career as a psychiatrist but later shifted his focus to acting. He made his acting debut in 1971 with the Marathi play Ghashiram Kotwal, written by Vijay Tendulkar. He later ventured into films and made his debut with the film Samna in 1974.
Agashe has worked in several critically acclaimed films such as Aakrosh, Sadgati, Ardh Satya, and Gandhi. He has also acted in international films like Mississippi Masala and Gandhi, My Father.
In addition to acting, Agashe has also served as the Director of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.
Awards and Recognition
Agashe has received several awards for his contribution to Indian cinema. He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1996 for his contribution to Indian theatre as an actor. He was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1990 by the Government of India.
