The history of the Cinema of India begins with the production of Raja Harishchandra in 1913, which is considered India's first full-length feature film. The film was produced by Dadasaheb Phalke, who is often referred to as the "father of Indian cinema". The silent film era was followed by the talkies in the 1930s, with the film Alam Ara being the first Indian sound film.
