Married (pronunciation: /ˈmarɪd/) is a term used to describe the state or condition of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law. The term can also be used to describe the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage[1].
Etymology
The term "Married" originates from the Old English word "ge-mæ-ri-ed" which means "to provide with a husband or wife."[2]
