MKNAOMI

MKNAOMI (/ˌemkeɪnaʊˈoʊmi/) is a covert biological warfare research program initiated by the United States government. The program was part of the larger MKULTRA project and focused on the storage, testing, and deployment of biological agents.

Etymology

The term "MKNAOMI" is derived from the code used by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to denote the agency's technical services. "MK" stands for the agency that produced the technical materials for the project, and "NAOMI" was a code name assigned to this particular project.

History

MKNAOMI was initiated in the early 1950s by the CIA, in conjunction with the Special Operations Division (SOD) of the United States Army's biological research center at Fort Detrick, Maryland. The program was designed to produce, stockpile, and deploy lethal biological agents and was officially sanctioned in 1952.
