MAFK
MAFK is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MAFK gene. This protein is a member of the Maf family of transcription factors, which play a crucial role in the regulation of gene expression. MAFK functions both as a homodimer and as a heterodimer with other Maf proteins, influencing the transcriptional activity of target genes involved in a variety of biological processes, including cell differentiation, development, and response to oxidative stress.
Function
MAFK is a basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factor that can bind as a homodimer to certain DNA regulatory regions or as a heterodimer with other Maf proteins. Its activity is essential in the regulation of gene expression during the development and differentiation of numerous cell types. In particular, MAFK has been implicated in the control of erythroid differentiation and the regulation of genes involved in the antioxidant response. Gene
