List of food safety organisations
List of Food Safety Organisations is a comprehensive compilation of international, national, and regional bodies dedicated to ensuring the safety and quality of food products. These organisations play a crucial role in maintaining food safety standards, conducting research, and providing education and resources to consumers, businesses, and governments.
International Organisations
1. World Health Organization (WHO): An agency of the United Nations, WHO is responsible for international public health. It provides leadership on global health matters, shapes the health research agenda, and monitors and assesses health trends.
2. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO): Another UN agency, the FAO leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security. Its activities include setting standards and policies for food safety and quality.
3. Codex Alimentarius: Established by the FAO and WHO, the Codex Alimentarius is a collection of internationally recognized standards, codes of practice, guidelines, and other recommendations relating to foods, food production, and food safety.
National Organisations
1. Food and Drug Administration (FDA): An agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the FDA is responsible for protecting public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, and medical devices, and by ensuring the safety of the nation's food supply.
2. European Food Safety Authority (EFSA): The EFSA provides independent scientific advice and communication on existing and emerging risks associated with the food chain.
3. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ): FSANZ is a statutory authority in the Australian Government Health portfolio. It develops food standards for Australia and New Zealand.
Regional Organisations
1. Asia Pacific Food Safety Cooperation Forum (APFSCF): The APFSCF promotes food safety cooperation and supports the development of food safety standards in the Asia Pacific region.
2. African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR): AU-IBAR is a specialized technical office of the Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture (DREA) of the African Union Commission (AUC). It is mandated to support and coordinate the utilization of livestock, fisheries and wildlife as resources for both human wellbeing and economic development in the Member States of the African Union.
