List of feline diseases
Feline Diseases are a variety of illnesses and conditions that can affect cats. These diseases can be caused by a number of factors, including viruses, bacteria, parasites, and genetic disorders. Some of these diseases are specific to cats, while others can also affect other animals, including humans.
Viral Diseases
Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a retrovirus that is responsible for a variety of diseases in cats, including lymphoma and leukemia. It is spread through close contact with infected cats.
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is another retrovirus that can cause an AIDS-like syndrome in cats. It is spread through bite wounds.
Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is a fatal, incurable disease that is caused by a coronavirus. It is spread through feces and can cause a variety of symptoms, including fever, weight loss, and fluid accumulation in the abdomen.
Bacterial Diseases
Cat Scratch Disease is caused by the bacterium Bartonella henselae. It is spread through scratches or bites from infected cats.
Feline Chlamydiosis is caused by the bacterium Chlamydophila felis. It is spread through close contact with infected cats and can cause respiratory symptoms and conjunctivitis.
Parasitic Diseases
Toxoplasmosis is caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. It is spread through ingestion of contaminated food or water and can cause a variety of symptoms, including fever, loss of appetite, and neurological problems.
Feline Heartworm Disease is caused by the parasite Dirofilaria immitis. It is spread through mosquito bites and can cause respiratory symptoms and heart failure.
Genetic Diseases
Polycystic Kidney Disease is a genetic disorder that causes multiple cysts to form in the kidneys. It can lead to kidney failure.
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is a genetic disorder that causes the heart muscle to thicken. It can lead to heart failure.
