Lahore (pronunciation: ləˈhɔːr) is the capital city of the Pakistani province of Punjab, and is the country's 2nd largest city after Karachi.
Etymology
The origin of Lahore's name is unclear. Lahore's name had been recorded by early Muslim historians as Lōhar, Lōhāwar, and Rāwal, among others. The most common theory of the origin of Lahore's name is that it is derived from the word Lōhāwar, with Lōhā meaning "blacksmith" in Punjabi. According to this theory, Lahore was originally a settlement of blacksmiths.
