Interleukin 20 receptor, beta subunit
Interleukin 20 receptor, beta subunit (IL20RB) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IL20RB gene. This protein is a part of the interleukin receptor family, which plays a crucial role in the immune system's response to various diseases and infections.
Function
The IL20RB protein is a subunit of the interleukin 20 receptor complex, which also includes the alpha subunit. This complex binds to interleukin 20 (IL20), interleukin 19 (IL19), and interleukin 24 (IL24). Upon binding, the receptor complex activates intracellular signaling pathways that lead to the expression of genes involved in inflammation, cell proliferation, and cell differentiation.
Clinical significance
Mutations in the IL20RB gene have been associated with various diseases, including psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer. In particular, overexpression of IL20RB has been observed in several types of cancer, suggesting a potential role in tumor growth and progression.
