Interleukin-11 - (pronounced) (inter-LOO-kin. . . ) One of a group of related proteins made by leukocytes (white blood cells) and other cells in the body. Interleukin-11 is made by supporting cells in the bone marrow. It causes different types of blood cells to grow. Oprelvekin (laboratory-made interleukin-11) is used as a biological response modifier to increase blood platelet counts, particularly in patients receiving cancer chemotherapy. Interleukin-11 is a type of cytokine. Also called IL-11
