Harris + Hoole
Harris + Hoole is a British coffeehouse chain that was established in 2012. The company was founded by Australian siblings Nick, Andrew, and Laura Tolley, who also own the Taylor St Baristas chain. The name "Harris + Hoole" is derived from characters in the Samuel Pepys' diary.
History
Harris + Hoole was launched in 2012 with financial backing from the supermarket chain Tesco. Tesco initially owned a 49% stake in the company, which it increased to 100% in 2016. However, Tesco sold the company to Caffè Nero later that same year.
The first Harris + Hoole shop was opened in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. The company has since expanded to operate more than 40 shops across London and the South East of England.
Products and Services
Harris + Hoole specialises in high-quality, artisanal coffee. The company sources its coffee beans from various locations around the world, including Ethiopia, Colombia, and Guatemala. In addition to coffee, Harris + Hoole also offers a range of food items, such as sandwiches, pastries, and salads.
The company is known for its focus on customer service and its commitment to creating a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere in its shops. Harris + Hoole also offers a mobile app, which customers can use to place orders and earn rewards.
Criticism and Controversy
Harris + Hoole has faced criticism for its association with Tesco, with some customers expressing concern about the supermarket chain's influence on the coffeehouse's operations. The company has also been accused of attempting to present itself as an independent coffee shop, despite its corporate backing.
