Globose Nucleus

The Globose Nucleus (pronunciation: /ˈgləʊbəʊs ˈnjuː.kli.əs/) is a component of the basal ganglia, a group of nuclei in the brain associated with control of voluntary motor movements, procedural learning, habit learning, eye movements, cognition, and emotion.

Etymology

The term "Globose Nucleus" is derived from the Latin words "globus" meaning sphere and "nucleus" meaning kernel or core. This is in reference to the spherical shape of the nucleus.

Function

The Globose Nucleus, along with the emboliform nucleus, forms the intermediate zone of the cerebellum. These nuclei receive inhibitory inputs from the Purkinje cells of the cerebellar cortex and send excitatory outputs to the ventral anterior nucleus and ventral lateral nucleus of the thalamus, which then project to the motor cortex.
