Girvan distillery

Girvan Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in South Ayrshire, Scotland. Established in 1963 by the company William Grant & Sons, the distillery produces a variety of spirits, including single grain whisky and vodka.

History

The Girvan Distillery was founded by William Grant & Sons, a family-owned Scottish company known for its production of Scotch whisky. The distillery was established in response to a growing demand for grain whisky for use in blended Scotch. The first spirit was produced on Christmas Day in 1963.

Production

The distillery uses a continuous patent still for the production of its spirits. This method, also known as column still distillation, allows for the continuous production of spirit, unlike the batch production of pot still distillation. The distillery also houses two Coffey stills, which are used for the production of its vodka.

The Girvan Distillery produces a variety of spirits, including single grain whisky and vodka. The single grain whisky is made from a mixture of cereals, primarily maize (corn) and wheat, and is aged in oak casks for a number of years. The distillery's vodka, known as Ailsa Bay, is made from wheat and is distilled multiple times to achieve a high level of purity.

Products

The Girvan Distillery produces a range of products, including the Girvan Patent Still Single Grain Scotch Whisky, which is available in a number of expressions, including No. 4 Apps, 25 Year Old, and 30 Year Old. The distillery also produces the Ailsa Bay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which is made from malted barley and aged in oak casks.
