Getir
Getir is a Turkish startup that provides a rapid delivery service for a wide range of products, including groceries, snacks, and household goods. The company was founded in 2015 by Nazim Salur, who is also the founder of BiTaksi, a popular ride-hailing app in Turkey.
History
Getir was launched in Istanbul in 2015. The company's business model is based on delivering a variety of products to customers' doors in an average of 10 minutes. This is achieved through a network of compact warehouses in the cities where it operates, stocked with around 1,500 products that are commonly in demand.
In 2021, Getir expanded its operations to include London, United Kingdom, marking its first venture outside of Turkey. The company has plans for further international expansion.
Business Model
Getir's business model is based on the concept of instant delivery, with a focus on speed and convenience. The company operates a series of small warehouses, each stocked with a range of products. When a customer places an order through the Getir app, the items are picked and packed at the nearest warehouse and then delivered by a Getir courier.
The company makes money by charging a delivery fee and by marking up the prices of the products it sells. It also generates revenue through partnerships with brands and suppliers.
Funding and Valuation
Getir has raised significant funding since its launch. In 2021, it raised $300 million in a Series C funding round, led by Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global. This funding round valued the company at around $2.6 billion.
Criticism and Controversy
Like many rapid delivery startups, Getir has faced criticism over its treatment of workers. Some couriers have complained about low pay, long hours, and a lack of job security. The company has also been accused of contributing to congestion and pollution in the cities where it operates.
