gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumor - (pronounced) (GAS-troh-EN-teh-roh-PAN-kree-A-tik NOOR-oh-EN-doh-krin TOO-mer) A rare type of tumor that which can form in the pancreas or other parts of the gastrointestinal tract, including the stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and appendix. Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors usually form in cells that secrete hormones. Some of these tumors produce extra amounts of hormones and other substances that can cause signs and symptoms of disease, including a condition called carcinoid syndrome. Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors can be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). They are sometimes called carcinoid tumors or islet cell tumors. Also called GEP-NET
