Gary Taubes (pronounced: Gair-ee Tohbs) is an American science writer and advocate of low-carbohydrate diets. He is the author of several books, including Good Calories, Bad Calories and Why We Get Fat.

Etymology

The name Gary is of Germanic origin, meaning "spear". The surname Taubes is of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, meaning "dove" in Yiddish.
