GORAB

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

GORAB or Golgin, RAB6-interacting is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GORAB gene. It is involved in the process of cell division and cell differentiation, and is particularly important in the development of the skin and bones.

Function

GORAB is a golgi resident protein that interacts with RAB6, a member of the RAS oncogene family. It is involved in the maintenance of the golgi structure and in the process of cytokinesis. GORAB is also implicated in the regulation of autophagy and apoptosis.

Clinical significance

Mutations in the GORAB gene are associated with Gerodermia osteodysplastica, a rare autosomal recessive skin disorder. This condition is characterized by skin laxity and early-onset wrinkles, as well as bone fragility and osteoporosis.

Research

Research into the GORAB gene and its associated protein is ongoing, with studies focusing on its role in cell division and differentiation, as well as its potential involvement in other diseases.
