Frederic Moll
Frederic Moll is a renowned American surgeon and medical device inventor, best known as the co-founder of Intuitive Surgical, the company that developed the da Vinci Surgical System.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Frederic Moll was born in Seattle, Washington. He attended the University of Washington where he received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He later earned his M.D. from the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Career[edit]
Moll began his career as a general surgeon at the UCSF Medical Center. He later transitioned into the medical technology industry, co-founding several successful companies.
In 1995, Moll co-founded Intuitive Surgical with Robert Younge and John Freund. The company developed the da Vinci Surgical System, a robotic surgical system designed to facilitate complex surgery using a minimally invasive approach. The system has been widely adopted in hospitals worldwide and has revolutionized the field of robotic surgery.
In addition to Intuitive Surgical, Moll has co-founded several other medical technology companies, including Origin Medsystems, Gyrus Acmi, and Hansen Medical.
Awards and Recognition[edit]
Moll's contributions to the field of medical technology have earned him numerous awards and recognition. He was named one of the "Top 100 Living Contributors to Healthcare" by Modern Healthcare magazine and was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering for his contributions to minimally invasive surgical technology.
