Electricity Generation

Electricity generation (pronunciation: /ɪˌlɛktrɪˈsɪtiː dʒɛnəˈreɪʃən/) is the process of generating electric power from sources of primary energy.

Etymology

The term "electricity generation" is derived from the words "electricity", which comes from the Greek word "ēlektron" meaning amber, and "generation", which comes from the Latin word "generatio" meaning to beget.

Process

For electric utilities in the electric power industry, it is the first stage in the delivery of electricity to end users, the other stages being transmission, distribution, energy storage and recovery, using the Pumped-storage method.

Methods

Electricity is most often generated at a Power station using electromechanical generators. There are many other technologies that can be and are used to generate electricity such as Solar photovoltaics and Geothermal power.
