East Africa is a region of the African continent that includes a number of countries and territories. It is known for its diverse cultures, languages, and historical significance. The region is characterized by its geographical features, including the Great Rift Valley, highlands, and coastal areas along the Indian Ocean.

Geography[edit]

East Africa is bordered by the Red Sea to the north, the Indian Ocean to the east, and the Great Lakes region to the west. The region includes countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Somalia.

The Great Rift Valley runs through East Africa, creating a series of lakes, mountains, and fertile highlands. This geological feature is a result of tectonic activity and is one of the most prominent features of the region.

History[edit]

East Africa has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. It is home to some of the earliest human ancestors, as evidenced by archaeological findings in the region.

Pre-colonial Period[edit]

The region was inhabited by various ethnic groups, including the Nilotic and Cushitic peoples. The Swahili Coast was a hub of trade and cultural exchange, connecting Africa with the Middle East and Asia.

Colonial Era[edit]
