Dysgerminoma - (pronounced) (DIS-jer-mih-NOH-moo) type of cancer that starts in the germ cells in women. Gametes are cells that make sperm in men or eggs in women. Dysgerminoma most commonly occurs in the ovaries, but can also occur in other areas of the body, including the central nervous system. Some dysgerminomas produce a hormone called beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-HCG) that can cause signs and symptoms of disease. Dysgerminoma tends to grow and spread slowly. They are the most common type of ovarian germ cell tumors. They usually appear in teenage girls or young women
