Dow AgroSciences
Dow AgroSciences was a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, which was involved in the development and marketing of agricultural products. The company was headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was known for its innovations in crop protection and biotechnology.
History
Dow AgroSciences was established in 1989 as a result of the merger between Dow Chemical's agricultural products department and Eli Lilly and Company's plant sciences business. Over the years, the company expanded its portfolio to include a wide range of herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and seeds.
In 2017, Dow AgroSciences became part of Corteva Agriscience, a major agricultural division formed from the merger of Dow Chemical and DuPont.
Products and Innovations
Dow AgroSciences was known for its development of agricultural biotechnology products, including genetically modified seeds that were engineered for resistance to pests and herbicides. The company also produced a variety of chemical products for crop protection, such as:
- Herbicides: Products designed to control unwanted plants and weeds.
- Insecticides: Chemicals used to manage insect pests that threaten crops.
- Fungicides: Solutions to prevent and control fungal diseases in plants.
Research and Development
The company invested heavily in research and development to create innovative solutions for modern agriculture. This included the development of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and advanced biotechnology techniques to improve crop yields and sustainability.
Environmental and Safety Concerns
Like many companies in the agrochemical industry, Dow AgroSciences faced scrutiny over the environmental and health impacts of its products. The company worked to address these concerns through rigorous testing and adherence to regulatory standards.
